Veritas Federal Credit Union (VFCU), originally chartered as Nissan’s credit union in 1973, is proudly celebrating its 50th anniversary on Thursday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with events at its branches in Smyrna and Franklin, Tenn., and in Canton, Miss. With food trucks in Smyrna and Canton, the public is invited to celebrate with us and take the opportunity to learn more about the benefits of credit union membership at VFCU.
“Who knew, on June 4, 1973, what would happen when eleven Nissan employees in Carson, California, filed an Organizational Certificate to form a credit union for the employees of Nissan Motor Corporation, USA?” Teri Crowl, CEO, recounts. “Those Nissan employees received approval from the NCUA on July 13, 1973, to officially charter the Nissan Motor Corporation Employees Federal Credit Union.”
Fast forward to 2023. Today, Veritas FCU still serves Nissan employees, contractors, vendors, suppliers and their families. VFCU also serves other businesses and organizations as well as those who live, work, worship, and attend school in 21 census tracts of Rutherford County, Tenn., and 21 census tracts in Madison, Holmes and Yazoo Counties in Mississippi.
As part of the celebration, the credit union is offering members a Daily Deal from Monday, July 10, through Friday, July 14, available for one day only. Daily Deal information will be available on Facebook (@veritasfcu), Instagram (@veritasfcu), and the VFCU website (www.veritasfcu.org).
The big event will be on Thursday, July 13, where VFCU invites the community to party like it’s 1973. Between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., local food trucks will be in Smyrna and Canton, plus there will be treats, giveaways, prize drawings, and more at each branch. Extra raffle tickets will be given for those who dress up like 1973! At VFCU headquarters in Smyrna, the event will wrap up with a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m. to make way for the next 50 years.
