UT Federal Credit Union (UTFCU) spread some seasonal cheer recently by planning a surprise holiday visit to the Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans’ Home in Knoxville. The visit, which included the hand-delivery of special gifts, treats, and more, is meant to bring some holiday joy to veteran residents receiving care at the Home, which is a long-term care and residential facility for state veterans. These holiday activities, which are the result of planning and coordination by UTFCU’s Kindness Committee, are part of a tradition of giving at the credit union, and are also part of UTFCU’s ongoing effort to give back to the community.
Volunteers from the Kindness Committee, an internal committee within UTFCU created to drive volunteer and outreach initiatives at UTFCU, along with other UTFCU employees, purchased and transported the gifts and items to the Home in close coordination with Ben Atchley staff. The items being received are from the holiday wishlists of residents, and are intended to bring joy while they receive care and support at the Home.
“While we always give back at UT Federal Credit Union, especially this time of year, being able to contribute to this particular organization, and its mission, has been something else,” said Tia Broughton, senior indirect lending officer at UT Federal Credit Union and one of the chief organizers of the day. “These wish list items are but a small token of appreciation and gratitude on our part for these men and women, and we truly hope they bring cheer to them this year.”
The Ben Atchley Tennessee State Veterans’ Home in Knoxville is a 140-bed facility that is one of several located throughout the state Tennessee. The Homes were established in 1988, and have been serving and caring for veterans in the state since 1991. UTFCU is proud to partner with this organization in Knoxville.
