US Community Credit Union Announces New CFO and COO

US Community Credit Union President and CEO Ben Johnson announced two new appointments to the Executive Leadership team. Kameran Laux has been named the new chief financial officer and J.R. Jernigan as the chief operations officer. Both individuals have long-standing histories with the organization and bring tremendous skill sets to their respective roles.

“The most important aspect of both appointments is the quality of people Kameran and J.R. are,” said Johnson. “They both have a strong moral compass, excellent work ethic, character and an ability to relate to others. They make everyone around them better, which has greatly contributed to the strong culture at USCCU.”

Kameran Laux has been with US Community Credit Union for ten years, and has served many roles within accounting, finance and data and analytics. She created and built the Business Intelligence Department and has a dedicated focus on efficiency, leadership development, collaboration and data-driven financial management. She focuses heavily on interactive models and reporting, facilitating strategic decision-making, performance tracking, risk-based pricing and portfolio management.

Laux earned her Certified Credit Union Investments Professional designation in 2022 and was promoted from senior AVP of finance to chief growth officer in July 2023. In that role, she continued championing a data-drive culture, developing strategies for membership growth and financial management. She actively participates in the credit union’s Community Involvement Committee, organizing volunteer efforts and serves as the treasurer for the Global Women’s Leadership Network’s Tennessee Sister Society. As a CUNA Finance Council member, she stays connected to financial professionals and informed on industry challenges.

“With gratitude and ambition, I am honored to step into the CFO role at US Community Credit Union,” said Laux. “Together, we will navigate the ever-evolving landscape of finance, empowering our members and communities to achieve their financial dreams, redefine possibilities and shape a future where everyone thrives.”

J.R. Jernigan has worked at US Community Credit Union for 17 years and began his career as a teller. He quickly moved into the Marketing Department where he spent 12 years leading the establishment of two student-run high school branches and his favorite annual event, the Credit Unions for Kids Golf Classic. In 2020, Jernigan made the transition to Special Projects where he oversaw the Information Technology and Quality Control departments.

During his time in special projects, he has worked to revamp the credit union’s loan origination system, online applications and several other key projects. Currently, he is leading a core conversion project for the credit union, which is scheduled to be completed this summer. Jernigan is excited for his new role as chief operations officer where he plans to take his passion for serving others to make a difference in the community by providing members with the best banking experience possible.

He will graduate from CUNA Management School later in 2024 and has shown tremendous progressive growth throughout his career at US Community Credit Union.

“I am honored and blessed to be in this new role,” said Jernigan. “Since my first day at US Community, I have been amazed at our team spirit mentality and drive to make our members lives better. Every day we will continue to focus on people helping people to enrich the lives of people and businesses in our community.”

US Community Credit Union is thrilled to add Laux and Jernigan to the Executive Team and believes their extensive expertise and proven leadership will undoubtedly fortify the organization’s commitment to serving its members and community with unwavering dedication. With their guidance, the credit union is poised to navigate new horizons and continue its legacy of excellence in financial services.
