United Southeast Federal Credit Union (USFCU) hosted its 10th Annual Flags of Gratitude cookout to honor and express gratitude to the first responders and military personnel in the community on Friday, May 24. The event, held at USFCU’s Corporate Office, brought together these brave individuals, their families, credit union members and the broader community for an afternoon of appreciation and camaraderie.
“For the last ten years, we have had the tremendous honor to recognize the men and women that are serving, or have served in one of the branches of our military as well as those serving in our community such as our law enforcement, firefighters or emergency medical services,” said Shelly Brown, USFCU president and CEO. “We have numerous members of our credit union who serve and protect our country and our cities. This is why each year we take time to honor not only them, but also members of our community for their sacrifices.”
The cookout is an annual initiative by USFCU to recognize the selfless dedication and sacrifice of our local first responders and military members. It provided an opportunity for the community to come together and show support for these heroes who work tirelessly to keep us safe.
“There is no way we can fully appreciate the sacrifices of the men and women who serve our nation or who have served our nation,” said Brown. “This event is just one small way we can pause to recognize them and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.”
During the month of May, paper flags were sold in all branches for a donation. Every flag raised symbolizes a gesture of thanks, a mark of respect for those who have served and continue to serve. But this initiative goes beyond symbolism. For every flag raised, all proceeds will go directly to Operation Gratitude, an organization supporting active-duty personnel providing care packages to give them a boost of morale and warm reminders of home.
Flags of Gratitude: it’s not just about waving flags; it’s about raising funds to support our soldiers and veterans, ensuring they receive the recognition they deserve.
