United Southeast Federal Credit Union (USFCU) and Mountain Empire Federal Credit Union (MEFCU) announced in fall 2023 their intent to merge. The merger go-live began on March 1, 2024.
MEFCU of Marion, Va., has served the community as the only credit union in the immediate area. MEFCU has provided and will continue to provide valuable financial products and services to the residents of Marion, Va., and the surrounding communities.
“We look forward to our combined credit union efforts while we continue to serve this community for many years to come,” stated Michelle Brown, president/CEO of United Southeast Federal Credit Union.
MEFCU and USFCU have a reputation for being member- and community-focused, and therefore alignment of each other’s mission and vision statements was a given.
MEFCU opened its doors in 1952 and has an average of 4,000 members as of 2024. Members will now be able to utilize USFCU products and services as well as access to expanded branch locations.
USFCU is headquartered in Bristol, Tenn., and has served members since 1941. USFCU is excited to now offer services and a community-based member experience at 6 branch office locations and has also expanded their member base to approximately 21,000.
“We believe in the credit union movement’s mission of ‘People Helping People’,” said Brown. “Our team members are our most valuable asset in serving our members, and we are excited to welcome the team members of MEFCU to United Southeast. Keeping all of these team members working in their community was a huge focus for United Southeast.”
