Audrey Barnette, Financial Service Officer with ORNL FCU was selected as the Tennessee representative by Filene Research Institute’s Cooperative Trust “Crash” Program to attend the CUNA GAC in Washington, DC.
What made you decide to apply to be a GAC crasher?
I applied to be a GAC crasher because I like challenges and the unconventional side of learning at conferences. I am still new to the credit union industry, and I couldn’t think of a better way to fuel my passion for credit unions other than diving in headfirst into the deep end with gusto. So, applying to the Crasher Program was just one of my goals for 2020! I am honored to have the chance to represent the state of Tennessee and advocate for ORNL FCU!
When you found out you were selected, what went through your mind?
Ultimate excitement! But then the “Oh no!! Where is my suit??” and the “I should start sleeping more now for the sleep I will lose at the conference” thoughts did cross my mind.
What are you most looking forward to during GAC?
Most importantly The Hill visit with my League and Credit Union. But of course, I am pumped to host Thunderpunch with my fellow crashers!
Is there anything you’re a little nervous about?
Not really! I travel often and I have attended conferences exceeding 75k in attendance. But, I am nervously excited to be submerged in nothing but Credit Union topics for the whole week!
