This year, the Tennessee Credit Union League introduced three new advocacy-themed awards in conjunction with our TriStar Advocacy Program. The TriStar Advocacy program emphasizes the importance of advocacy and for all credit unions and credit union members to be involved in all aspects of advocacy.
The three awards, which will be given out annually, are—TriStar State Legislator of the Year, Tristar Federal Legislator of the Year and TriStar Advocate of the Year.
TriStar State Legislator of the Year
This year at our Legislative and Regulatory Forum in Nashville, Representative Sam McKenzie, also a credit union board member at ORNL Federal Credit Union, was named our first TriStar State Legislator of the Year for his work supporting credit unions on the state level.
TriStar Federal Legislator of the Year
At CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference, we named Congressman John Rose the first TriStar Federal Legislator of the Year for his important work for our CDFI Credit Unions.
Tristar Advocate of the Year
Finally, at this year’s Annual Convention and Expo in Gatlinburg, we awarded David Smart with Trust Federal Credit Union the Tristar Advocate of the Year for his work advocating for CDFI credit unions and more transparency with the CDFI Fund.
We look forward to recognizing future winners for their work in credit union advocacy.
