Leaders Credit Union Hosts Jefferson Award Foundation in West Tennessee

Leaders Credit Union and WBBJ-TV hosted the Annual Jefferson Award Foundation luncheon for the 2017-2018 West Tenn. recipients on Tuesday, April 24, at the Jackson Country Club. Lori Collins of Redemption Road Rescue in Jackson was selected as the West Tennessee national nominee at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Awards celebration in Washington, D.C.

Leaders Credit Union partners with WBBJ-TV to bring the Jefferson Award Foundation to the West Tennessee community. The Jefferson Award Foundation honors community champions who are “ordinary people doing extraordinary things without expectation of recognition.” The awards are given at both national and local levels. Since August 2017, a new honoree is selected locally each month. Recipients are nominated by their peers and selected by the Jefferson Awards Foundation committee members of West Tennessee. Our 2017-2018 West Tennessee winners include:

  • Rickey Alexander: Savannah, Tenn.
  • Dave Brumley: Jackson, Tenn.
  • Christie Pennington: Henderson, Tenn.
  • Linley White: Paris, Tenn.
  • Lori Collins: Jackson, Tenn.
  • Norwood Jones: Jackson, Tenn.
  • Jeff Wall: Jackson, Tenn.

  • Glorious Damron: Adamsville, Tenn.

Award recipients are volunteers and champions for numerous charities and causes across West Tennessee including the Red Cross, animal rescue, missing person’s cases, mentorships, community events, goodwill baskets and beyond.

“We are honored to be a small part of bringing our community’s champions into the light for others to be inspired by, and model after,” said Todd Swims, President and CEO of Leaders Credit Union.

Lori Collins in Jackson, Tenn., was selected as the West Tennessee national nominee for the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award representing the greatest possible service to a local community by a private citizen.  Of the final 52 nominees from across the country, five will be selected. The national Jefferson Awards Foundation event will take place in Washington, D.C., June 26-28th at the Mayflower Hotel.

Collins acts as founder and director of Redemption Road Rescue, a facility that rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes starved, abused and neglected equine across West Tennessee. Collins along with 50 volunteers she recruited have housed over 500 abused equines throughout the past seven years.

“The Jefferson Awards Foundation is very honored to partner with Leaders Credit Union and WBBJ-TV to bring the awards back to West Tennessee and celebrate the accomplishments and service of our local neighbors,” said Brady Tanner, National Director for the Jefferson Awards Foundation.  “We look forward to celebrating Lori Collins in Washington, D.C.”
