Jon Fernander Earns Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist Certification

Jon Fernander, BSA analyst at Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union (TVFCU), recently attended the Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist certification sponsored by CUNA and received his certification of a BSACS after passing the test.

Jon has been the BSA analyst at TVFCU since January 2019 after working in several other areas of the credit union since 2017. Jon’s BSA role was crucial during 2020 and 2021 as he was responsible for the timely filing of all CTR and SARs at TVFCU and the primary staff resource for BSA-related questions.

“Jon has expanded our BSA training by recording training videos that our new hires watch during new-hire orientation,” said Kim Tinney, director of risk and compliance, TVFCU. “He has created resource documents related to common CTR, SAR and elder exploitation scenarios that can be accessed at any time by our entire staff which helps foster a ‘culture of compliance’ with the credit union.”

There are more than 1,500 Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist designees across the country.

“The greatest benefit from attending the conference has been the connections I formed with other Compliance and BSA professionals from across the country,” said Jon. “It has been invaluable to have friends with whom I can brainstorm and share documents from our respective CUs in an effort to create stronger Compliance and BSA programs. Obtaining the BSACS certification has made me more confident in my knowledge of BSA topics and has sparked my interest in obtaining additional certifications in the future.”
