Sarah Waters, chief advocacy officer, was in D.C. last week for the NCUA board meeting and meetings with the Tennessee delegation. Here’s a recap of the visit!
Visiting our nation’s capital is something that will never grow old to me. Seeing the U.S. Capitol first thing in the morning is a great start to the day!
While in D.C. last week, I was able to meet with 10 of our 11 offices in the Tennessee Delegation along with our contract lobbyist, John McKechnie. We were able to meet directly with Congressman Rose, Congressman Ogles, Congressman Fleischmann, and Congressman DesJarlais.
We discussed the SVB fallout and how our credit unions are safe and sound and serving their members well. We also discussed overdraft protection and expanding the CLF provisions. On the Senate side, we discussed the board modernization bill with Hagerty and Blackburn’s staff. Senator Hagerty is the co-lead on the Board Modernization Bill and we are thankful for his leadership.
We also attended the NCUA board meeting and learned more about their efforts on cyber security and their positions on the interest rate ceiling. It was interesting to see the board meet in person and discuss issues important to our member credit unions.
