In 2017, we saw unprecedented storms and hurricanes hammer our coast lines causing insurmountable amounts of damage.
This year, while devastating, Hurricane Florence was not the destructive force that was anticipated. Year after year, we continue to hear about the devastating effect these storms, specifically flooding (e.g., Houston in 2017, Madison and the Carolinas in 2018), has on American’s homes and finances.
CUNA Mutual Group wants to help. While we don’t sell flood insurance, we’ve come across some myths and also identified resources available to consumers.
In 2017, FEMA and the NFIP launched their “moonshot” initiative to try and double the amount of people covered by flood insurance in 2023. CUNA Mutual Group is uniquely situated in the marketplace to help FEMA achieve this moonshot through our relationship with credit unions and the credit union system, while also achieving our purpose of helping people achieve financial security.
Below is a link to a flood resource page that can be distributed to your credit unions to help educate their members on the importance of flood insurance. The information on this site is provided by FEMA, CUNA Mutual Group, and other resources and includes ready to use brochures, newsletter templates, and links to free resources from FEMA and the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) that makes educating members simple. It’s that easy, and all in one convenient place for credit unions to access.
This landing page is to help credit unions help their members. By protecting members, credit unions are not only strengthening their relationship with their members as trusted financial guides, but also protecting themselves by protecting their members’ investment in their homes.
