Five Reasons to Attend the Legislative and Regulatory Forum

We invite you to join us for the League’s Annual Legislative and Regulatory Forum, Feb. 3-4, at the Hermitage Hotel. Solidify your plans to attend to take advantage of the hotel discount, which expires on Friday.

“Tennessee credit union CEOs have always told me that the League’s Legislative and Regulatory Forum is ‘must-see TV,’ but I think 2025 is even more so,” said John McKechnie with McKechnie LLC and the League’s contract lobbyist. “There are so many critical issues coming to the forefront, particularly involving the credit union tax exemption and the overall regulatory environment in Washington. This year’s Legislative and Regulatory Forum is both critical and well-timed.”

Here are five reasons to attend.

1. Hear from industry experts.

The two-day event will open with updates from Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) Director Pravina Raghavan. Other speaker highlights include Congressman John Rose, who serves on the House Financial Services Committee, and Tennessee Department of Financial Institutions Commissioner Greg Gonzales.

2. Learn the latest in combating financial fraud.

With escalating fraud challenges at the forefront of everyday operations, we’ve created a dynamic panel of industry experts to discuss strategies to reduce financial and reputational impacts and provide valuable insights into how collaboration can support credit union efforts to battle this crime. Panelists include Joni Lovingood, corporate property and casualty consultant at TruStage, and Scott Simpson, CEO at California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues & Utah Credit Union Association.

3. Gain an understanding of this year’s legislative priorities.

The Forum is curated to give you a comprehensive understanding of this year’s legislative priorities and the political environment. The two-day event will conclude with the 2025 Advocacy Outlook. Sarah Waters, chief advocacy officer at the League, Matt Coniglio, director of advocacy at the League, and John McKechnie, with McKechnie LLC, will analyze the early developments of our newly elected federal and state governments and discuss potential legislative and regulatory issues and opportunities. We’ll also discuss the things we’re watching out for in a new administration, like protecting the credit union tax status.

4. Network with credit union peers.

Perhaps the best part of an in-person event is the opportunity to network with credit union peers and industry experts.

5. Engage with credit union advocacy.

Advocacy works best when we engage with it. You are your members’ best advocate. We invite you to attend the Annual Legislative and Regulatory Forum to gain a better understanding of upcoming issues that could impact credit unions and your members’ way of life.
