The newly created CU Social Good Committee is the only platform in TN dedicated to sharing the great things credit unions do each and every day to serve and give back to the communities they serve.
The purpose of this committee is to work with the League to promote CU Social Good statewide and encourage credit unions across the state to share their stories. CU Social Good is a platform to collect and promote stories of how Tennessee credit unions support the communities they serve. This information will be a valuable tool to educate lawmakers and community leaders about the impact and value of credit unions in their communities. Credit unions love their communities and we need to share this message.
The committee will focus on the following areas:
- Financial education
- Children’s Miracle Network (CU4Kids)
- Scholarships
- Charitable Giving
- Community Service
- Sustainability
Recently the CU Social Good Committee established a GoFundMe page to raise funds to provide small asset size credit unions access to funds to meet essential operational needs and insurance deductibles to ensure operations are not interrupted. Nashville, Tennessee has credit unions with as few as $1.3 million in assets.
Funds will also be used to provide assistance to employees of credit unions and their families to help them rebuild and sustain their lives. Our goal is to ensure credit unions are fully staffed and able to provide essential financial services to the communities they serve. This might include helping with daycare bills, groceries, medical needs, and insurance deductibles.
The first grant from the fund has been awarded to an employee of a Nashville area credit union whose home was damaged in the March Nashville tornadoes. If you would like to make a donation to the fund please visit the CU Social Good GoFundMe page.
If you or someone from your credit union would like a request a grant from the fund please visit – https://www.yourleague.org/cusgrequest
