Celebrating the Impact of Tennessee Credit Unions and Looking Ahead to 2025

As we enter the final month of the year, it’s incredible to reflect on how quickly time has flown. This year has been filled with accomplishments, challenges and opportunities, and we’re already preparing for what’s ahead in 2025. Our focus remains steadfast—expanding and enhancing the ways we support our member credit unions, while advocating at the state and federal levels to protect and grow the opportunities for more Tennesseans to access the benefits of credit unions.

The Unique Mission of Credit Unions
Credit unions are unlike any other financial institution. While competitors may try to paint us as similar, the truth is simple—we exist to serve our members and improve their financial lives. Over my 41 years in the credit union movement, I’ve never attended a meeting or conversation where the well-being of members wasn’t the top priority.

This dedication to service has been a cornerstone of Tennessee credit unions for more than a century, beginning with the founding of our first credit union 101 years ago. Today, that spirit of service is as vibrant as ever, with credit unions across Tennessee working tirelessly to make a positive impact on the lives of 2.5 million members.

Amplifying Your Stories and Advocacy Efforts
One of the most powerful ways we can protect and grow the credit union movement is by sharing your stories. Lawmakers and regulators need to see the tangible ways credit unions make life better for their communities—whether through providing first-time loans, helping members save for the holidays or offering robust financial services like member business loans. I encourage you to share your credit union difference stories with us.

Every credit union, regardless of size, plays a vital role. From the smallest credit unions that focus on savings and loans to the largest full-service institutions, you share a commitment to improving financial health. Your unique, member-focused approach makes us stand out as not-for-profit, member-owned cooperatives governed by volunteer boards. This structure ensures credit unions always put people over profits, with services tailored to the needs of each membership.

Looking Toward 2025
As we prepare for the new year, let’s seize every opportunity to amplify the incredible work you do. No story is too small or too large—every action you take eases financial burdens and lifts the lives of Tennesseans. Your boards, staff, and volunteers deserve recognition for their tireless dedication.

We will continue to advocate for policies that protect the mission of credit unions and create pathways for even more Tennesseans to experience the difference we make. Together, we are a beacon of financial hope, and it’s my honor to work alongside such a passionate and committed group of professionals.

Thank you for all you do to make life better for your members and communities. Let’s carry this momentum into the new year, strengthening the credit union movement and changing lives for the better.
