Advocacy Update – December 2021

Happy December from the Advocacy team! In addition to our ongoing efforts, we are busy gearing up for the 2022 edition of the Tennessee General Assembly, to commence on Tuesday, January 11.  We will be covering HB0375 [PDF], also known as the Interchange Bill. As introduced, the Bill requires that state and local taxes and fees be excluded from the calculation of interchange fees by payment card networks for electronic payment transactions (which would amend TCA Title 67). You can follow along and catch updates on the Tennessee General Assembly website where you can also view a complete summary of the Bill.

The beginning of a new year also brings two of our biggest advocacy events of the year. We’ll be hosting Legislative Regulatory Forum (Leg/Reg) at the newly renovated Hermitage Hotel on January 24-25. Invited speakers include Senator Bill Hagerty and Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett. You can learn more about the event and register here.

In addition to Leg/Reg, 2022 will also bring the return of CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference on February 27 – March 3. We’re looking forward to one of our biggest events of the year as we head back to Capitol Hill to engage lawmakers on issues that affect credit unions and their members.
